PI Midwest cruises past Hastings

COLUMBUS – PI Midwest (Creighton Prep) coupled timely hitting along with a strong pitching performance to make quick work of Hastings Five Points Bank, taking a 11-1 seven-inning victory in the first round of the “National” Divison American Legion State Tournament.

PI Midwest scored in the first, thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Michael Pritchard. Pritchard would strike again later with a two-run home run in the third, adding a pair of additional RBIs.

Bryan Sova cruised on the mound for PI Midwest, allowing just one run in seven innings, striking out five and only allowing six hits. It took Hastings until their final at-bat to have a runner reach third base, as Beau Zimmerman would eventually score his teams’ lone run on a Matthew Overmiller single.

PI Midwest advances to play Associated Fire (Papillion-LaVista South) on Saturday at 7 PM. Hastings Five Points Bank will take on Fremont in an elimination round game at 1 PM tomorrow afternoon.
