Patriots climb out of early hole to defeat Pinnacle Bank

Box Score

COLUMBUS – Despite trailing 5-0 after 3 ˝ innings on Friday afternoon, the Prime Time Patriots (Millard South) rallied off 11 runs in the final five innings to take an 11-9 first-round victory over Lincoln (Southwest) Pinnacle Bank in the “National” Division of the State American Legion Tournament.

Two three-run innings in the fourth and fifth propelled the Patriots back into contention, thanks in large part to the bat of Alec Wedige who stroked an RBI sac-fly in the fourth and a two-run home run in the fifth. Kyle Honeycutt joined the Patriot onslaught as he drilled a pair of solo home runs, including a leadoff bomb to left center in the bottom of the eighth.

Taylor Anderson paced the Pinnacle Bank attack, reaching base in each of his five plate appearances and scoring four times in the contest.

Elliott Engle would add a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, but it was for naught as Colin Klingemann got the victory in relief for the Patriots.

The Prime Time Patriots advance to the winner’s bracket and will take on the victor of the Bellevue West/Columbus matchup at 4 PM on Saturday. Pinnacle Bank, meanwhile, will face the loser of the Bellevue West/Columbus game at 10 AM on Saturday morning.
